Xavier Allen Band
My mom once told me that when she first heard my voice even my cries sounded like a song. I’ve also been told that I could sing anything before I could really talk. I guess you could say that I’ve got the music in me.
Music has always been important in my life. Every time I hear a song that I really love, I’m either dancing or singing. But music has also helped me to express myself and share with others who I really am. I feel comfortable when I’m around music, it helps me to relax. And when I’m relaxed its easier to talk with my friends.
If you’re wondering why is this such a big deal, well I was diagnosed with autism when I was three years old. I didn’t talk a lot, but I was always singing. In 2019, I went to an open mic event at Steamworks Creative hosted by a Band Together Pittsburgh. John Vento heard me sing and asked if I would perform at the Blues and Roots Festival. I was scared but excited at the same time, and it was amazing.
I used to have stage fright sometimes, and my nerves would get the best of me on some days, but music helps me find an inner peace, and always makes me smile. It gives me a chance to spend time with friends and share ideas.
Now I get to perform every month at open mics, learned how to be a DJ, working the stage crew at various events, and now I have a band to perform with. Let’s just say life is great and my future is brighter thanks to Ron “Moondog” Esser, John Vento and Band Together Pittsburgh.
